We Believe In This Country

We will make it through this moment

January 6, 2021

We will find clarity. And from that clarity, we will rebuild and we will thrive.

Today we witnessed one of the most blatant assaults on our sacred democratic institutions in this nation’s history. Our Capitol was overrun in an organized attempt to thwart the electoral process, the very crux of democracy. Let’s be clear. These were domestic terrorists attempting a coup. Their efforts were the direct result of the intentional spread of misinformation by the President to overturn a free and fair presidential election that he lost. They will fail. Today and the next few days may be horrifying. However, we will find clarity. And from that clarity, we will rebuild and we will thrive. This is America.

What transpired today represents a surrender to fear and hatred. Spreading lies and conspiracy theories for political gain has only one logical conclusion: chaos and destruction. Good people can not continue to turn a blind eye and fail to act. It has been said, “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” This has been several years in the making. It could have been prevented, and yet it culminated in a dark moment in our country’s history.

But we believe we’ll get through this moment together. We believe our democracy is stronger when everyone has ownership, and today our conviction to turn every renter into an owner has been reinvigorated. We’ve witnessed what happens when we fail to answer this call. Now is the time to adapt and overcome.

While we are a great nation, we have many problems. These challenges were brought into the light of day during the onset of the pandemic, and now they must be given no quarter. We must answer the call of our more perfect Union and we must work together to be part of the solution. The path we’ve chosen is to turn every renter into an owner. Wealth inequality provides fertile ground for political instability. We will persist and do our part to address this issue by using our talent and passion to bring innovative solutions, like Rentership (renter-ownership), to market so that everyone has access and opportunity to own in our communities.

In Abraham Lincoln’s annual message to Congress one month before signing the Emancipation Proclamation, he said the following: “We say we are for the Union. The world will not forget that we say this. We know how to save the Union. The world knows we do know how to save it. We hold the power, and bear the responsibility.”

We will always fight for the integrity of our democracy and a stronger Union. We believe every citizen across the country deserves to prosper from this fight.

There is a path forward. “The way is plain, peaceful, generous, just—a way which if followed the world will forever applaud.” We believe in this country, and we will make it through this moment.
