The Round-up Vol 22: A Year in Rhoview
2020 was a big year for Rhove. Here’s a look back at all we’ve accomplished.
January 2, 2021
2021 is finally upon us, prompting us to reflect on what we’ve achieved in the last chaotic 12 months.
As we emerge from the end of an unforgettable year, we’d like to take the opportunity to thank you for all your support and provide a quick recap of our favorite moments.
Highlights from 2020
We created the #AtHomeChallenge at the start of quarantine to prove it was within our power to improve and grow in any situation. What began as an introspective exercise turned into a way to help everyone practice self-improvement and encourage them to be their best selves, of course while also maintaining a social distance.
Black Lives Matter
We stood in solidarity with millions of Americans taking a stand against racism and police brutality. Emphasizing the immense importance of the Black Lives Matter movement, we recognized that social change doesn’t come without a price. After the pandemic hit and the civil rights protests began, we felt it was critical to take immediate action.
Rentership was Born
We leaned further into our belief that our democracy is stronger when we all have ownership, making our long-term vision into our immediate plans. We set out to create a new category in housing that expanded access and opportunity for everyone to own in our communities with no barriers to entry for the first time ever.
In a fitting tribute to democracy, we introduced Rentership to the world on the Fourth of July, beginning with Gravity. Every resident at Gravity can now own a stake in their home, and they were the first to join our movement.
Rentership Makes Headlines
We knew the world needed a new category in housing, but we didn't anticipate how quickly the world would agree with us.
We were inspired by the national headlines we grabbed with Fast Company, Business Insider, and National Real Estate Investor as people around the world began to understand the benefits of expanding access and opportunity for everyone to own a stake in our communities.
First Stakeholder Meeting
We held the very first Stakeholder Meeting with Brett Kaufman, Founder and CEO of Kaufman Development and the owner of Gravity. Brett told us why he thinks renters and owners co-creating value in their communities with Rhove is going to change housing forever.
Rentership Takes Flight in Dayton
We expanded Rentership to Dayton, Ohio, the birthplace of aviation, where renters will soon be able to claim a stake in their homes and deepen their connection to their communities. This is exciting for the team here at Rhove as it marks our first expansion beyond our hometown of Columbus.
More to Come
Finally, in 22 editions of the Round-Up, we’ve curated the most important news relating to housing and personal finance. We hope it’s been informative, thought-provoking, and above all helpful in your quest to get the most out of your home and your money.
This newsletter is one of our favorite ways to connect with you and other like-minded people, and we can’t wait to share many more volumes in 2021.
In Other News
While stay-at-home orders make large celebrations impossible, many NYC couples are using would-be wedding budgets to buy apartments instead.
Tens of thousands of mutual aid networks have emerged in 2020 to improve health, well-being, and dignity through social cooperation. Bloomberg’s CityLab presents a visual history of mutual aid.
While our vision is to turn every renter into an owner, being a stakeholder in your community is about so much more than finance.
Perhaps the challenges of 2020 will help us to see with 20/20 vision going forward. A new year brings a fresh start, as well as a chance to build on previous successes.
If we’ve learned anything from 2020, it’s that with creativity, authenticity, and grit, we can thrive even in the worst of times. It's been said that necessity is the mother of invention, and we couldn't agree more. We’re looking at 2021 eager to empower more renters to turn into owners, and we’re excited to show you where we bring Rentership next...stay tuned.
In case you missed it, there’s a case for optimism in 2021. A case for healing, growing, and building the world in a positive way going forward. Together, we will thrive.
Happy New Year! Let’s make 2021 the best one yet.
